6 Louisiana animal shelters cut pet adoption fees in October

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Pet adoption fees will be reduced for six Louisiana animal shelters during the first week of October.

Two such animal shelters are in the Greater Baton Rouge area – Rescue Alliance in Gonzales and West Feliciana Animal Humane Society in St. Francisville.

The low-cost adoption event hosted by BISSELL Pet Foundation will run from October 1-8 nationwide. Pet adoption fees will be $50 or less during this week, according to the foundation.

“It has been a difficult year for animal shelters in our country. The devastating increase in owner abandonment has left thousands of socialized, home-trained and leash-trained pets desperate to find homes,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Our fall ‘Empty the Shelters’ program will support the adoption of thousands of pets across the country, helping shelters during this critical time. Opening your home to a rescue animal saves a life and creates space to give another animal a chance.

Other animal shelters participating in the event include the CATNIP Foundation at Big Sky Ranch in Folsom, Iberia Parish Rabies Control in New Iberia, Northshore Humane Society in Covington and St. Bernard Parish Animal Services in Violet.
