BluePearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital Launches New Post-Graduation Wellness Training Program, Clinicians-in-Training

This program aims to prevent mental health crises among veterinary professionals by educating new graduates about well-being from the start of their careers.

TAMPA, Florida, December 30, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – BluePearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospital, one of the largest providers of postgraduate training programs in the United States, today announced the launch of a new wellness training program, Clinicians-In-Training. The Clinician-in-Training Health and Wellness program provides interns, residents and emergency clinicians enrolled in the BluePearl’s House Officer program and emerge training programs with a veterinary social worker or wellness educator and access to mental health and wellness resources.

Each year, BluePearl trains approximately 200 rotating interns, specialist interns, residents and emergency clinicians through its House Officer and emERge mentorship programs. BluePearl continually strives to identify areas of opportunity to improve its postgraduate training programs. Clinicians-In-Training was developed by the BluePearl Health and Wellness team after seeking feedback from interns, which demonstrated the need for a greater focus on the well-being of interns, residents and emergency clinicians. BluePearl’s Health and Wellness team consists of 10 highly trained veterinary social workers and Dr. Sonja olson, a veterinarian and a wellness educator.

Through trainee clinicians, trainees, residents and emERge clinicians will receive the tools and skills necessary to meet the human challenges of veterinary medicine and life. The program will cover wellness topics such as managing expectations, impostor syndrome, moral distress, setting limits and compassion fatigue. The Health and Wellness team will also introduce residents and interns to mental health and wellness resources within the organization and help connect them with a local mental health professional as needed. A simultaneous line of training and support will be provided to program directors, mentors and hospital management.
