That’s the question staff at a pet store in Drogheda want to answer and they’ve taken to social media to warn thieves that they have photographic and video evidence that they bagged the rabbit.
Staff at Pet Bliss in the city’s Donore Road shopping park posted on the Facebook page saying: ‘We are deeply saddened this week.
“A customer put this bunny on hold for us and two kids walked into the store and stole it. We love and care for all the animals we have and we try as much as possible to find good homes for these animals.
“For someone to steal this poor helpless bunny is absolutely heartbreaking for us and for the new family who thought they were bringing the bunny home.
‘Please share this post to see if we can locate the bunny and get him to surrender to us. If you know of anything or have seen anyone have a bunny like this recently, please let us know. The Garda are involved and we have photos and videos of the children who stole it.
A spokeswoman for the shop told The Sunday World: “It’s devastating when something like this happens, all the staff here look after the pets as if they were their own.
“As you can imagine, there are also a few very upset kids as they were looking forward to having a brand new pet.”
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai is investigating a theft at a retail store in Drogheda on Thursday 26 May. Investigations are ongoing.
