Hannah Pet Hospital to pay $43,000 to settle sexual harassment lawsuit

PORTLAND — Portland veterinary service provider Hannah Pet Hospital will pay a former pet nurse more than $43,000 to settle a federal sexual harassment lawsuit.

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Hannah last fall on behalf of a nurse at Hannah’s Tigard Clinic who said she quit because a vet sexually harassed her. throughout his employment, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.

The federal agency said the vet also used sexist pejoratives when addressing other employees and said things like “Shut up, woman” and “Stupid woman.”

Although complaints were filed, Hannah did nothing and instead promoted it, the federal agency said.

Under the terms of the settlement, Hannah’s will pay the pet nurse $43,179 for emotional distress and lost wages, hire an outside expert to help make changes to workplace policies and internal complaint procedures, and will train employees on the policies, the federal agency said.

Hannah Pet Hospital did not respond to a request from the newspaper for comment on Wednesday.

The Oregon Department of Justice also launched an investigation into the company, formerly known as Hannah the Pet Society, in 2016 after receiving complaints that it had failed to provide proper animal care. company, among others.
