Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe – who formed the most successful pop group of the 80s – had a busy 2022. After selling the OVO Hydro arena in Glasgow they joined New Order for their North American Unity tour and will now wrap it all up with a show at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay.
The duo – who last played the New Year’s Eve concert in 2013 – said: “2022 has been an amazing year, where we loved being able to perform again after the restrictions resulting from the pandemic. We can’t think of a better way to end this year than by celebrating the start of 2023 in Edinburgh.
Pet Shop Boys will join a roster of highly acclaimed artists who have made headlines Edinburgh’s NYE front, including Madness, UB40, Blondie, Culture Club, The Proclaimers, Paolo Nutini and Biffy Clyro.
The festival is set to return for the first year since its 2020 and 2021 events were canceled amid the COVID pandemic. Penny Dougherty and William Burdett-Coutts of Unique Assembly said: “As we celebrate the return of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, we are delighted to once again welcome one of the greatest pop duos of all time and one of the festival’s most successful headliners – Pet Shop Boys.
