The bosses of a bird of prey center in Renfrewshire have thanked a Johnstone pet shop for helping them buy a new gazebo.
Hootenanny Owls, based at Finlaystone Estate, Langbank, recently appealed for donations after their hut was destroyed in storms last month.
In response to their urgent appeal, Johnstone Pet Shop has now donated £200 to help the struggling centre, which has been hit hard by lockdown restrictions and a recent outbreak of bird flu.
Donna Pickett, who runs the center with her husband Billy, told The Gazette: “We’ve really struggled over the past two years.
“Not being able to open the center was difficult. Then we were hit by bird flu and were forced to close again.
“We had to fund the rescue ourselves and it wasn’t easy. Due to the closure of a number of rescues we were asked to take birds in but we really couldn’t. for lack of funds.
“We normally have a children’s falconer group on a Sunday and we can’t even make it. Hopefully we can open and resume our groups soon and hopefully be able to fundraise.”
