GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Humane Society of North Central Florida is teaming up with Hailes Angels Pet Rescue and Puppy Hill Farm Animal Rescue for their biggest free adoption event of the year – North Florida Pet Adoption Days.

From June 11 to June 20, all pets are free to adopt except for puppies four months and under, according to Director of Advancement Margot DeConna.

“We come together to adopt free pets that are fully vetted, microchipped, vaccinated, spayed and neutered,” DeConna said.

She said they expected to see a slowdown in adoptions after the pandemic, but hundreds of adoptions are happening each month. Despite reports of an increase in pet returns across the country, DeConna said that trend isn’t holding true in North Central Florida.

“Here locally, we never have more than a 10 percent rate of return per year for adopted pets and we see the same percentage hovering around that same percentage of about 7 percent,” DeConna said.

Applications must be submitted online in advance and adoptions will be by appointment only. For more information on the adoption event, click here.
