WESTBOROUGH – Banfield Pet Hospital plans to move into Speedway Plaza on Turnpike Road.

On November 1, the Planning Board approved a special permit for the hospital with conditions.

These conditions include the presence of two parking spaces near the hospital for animals in distress, receptacles for animal waste and soundproof walls.

According to Jeff Hammond, director at Scott Edwards Architecture, Banfield wants to build a 4,400 square foot full-service pet hospital, complete with a diagnostic area, surgery room, and retail area.

The site would not be used for boarding or dog day care.

Now that the permit is approved, the hospital would take over the Speedway Plaza space currently occupied by the Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant and True Salon and Color.

Banfield is the largest pet hospital worldwide, with more than 900 clinics. The nearest location is in the PetSmart at Northborough Crossing.

According to Andrew Fisch of RK Centers, owner of Speedway Plaza, “If all goes as planned, Banfield will move to RK Speedway Plaza.”

“The exact timing isn’t set in stone, as there are a few variables at play, but I would expect them to open in the spring of 2024,” Fisch said.
