Pet parents are spoiled for choice now, as Pet Supplies Plus just opened its first location in Sioux Falls on Friday.
Pet Supplies Plus opened at 1740 S. St Michaels Circle and offers a selection of food, leashes and other supplies, as well as an automatic dog wash area.
At the time of the store’s grand opening on October 2-3, the store will have pets for adoption, from parakeets and guinea pigs to a large selection of exotic fish. It will also have a bakery space for pet treats and offer organic and grain-free pet food.
The dog wash area has hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner in three tiled stalls. Each is equipped with a hose for watering pets. A wash costs $ 10 each or can be purchased as part of a five-visit pass or a “Dirty Dog Discount” card for $ 25.
“The oatmeal shampoo smells like sugar cookies. It’s amazing,” said Rachel Schroeder, store manager. “We have already brought in several people.
Later there will be a certified groomer to drop off the dogs. By August 17, small animals like hamsters, guinea pigs, lizards and fish will be arriving in stores for sale.
“A lot of people do a lot of neon fish,” said Trystan Stanga, an employee. “Japanese fish too.”
Owner Matt Nelson was inspired to open a franchise in Sioux Falls while visiting Minnesota while traveling. It is opening its doors as a mid-priced option among several small and big box stores already in the region.
On August 28, there will be an adoption event with Almost Home Canine Rescue from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with Kong brands. Local hostels will be in contact for the event.
“We are delighted to help with the adoption and to be in the area,” said Schroeder.
