Gold Coast police rescued a dozen puppies from a burning pet store in a fire that was deemed suspicious.
Police were called to Lawrence Drive, Nerang, on Sunday evening just before 6 p.m. after receiving reports that the Ultimate Motorbikes KTM, Indian & Polaris Gold Coast motorcycle shop was on fire.
They quickly discovered that an adjacent pet store had also caught fire with 12 puppies inside, including Spaniels, Cavoodles and Blue Heeler puppies.
It is believed that the owner of the pet store alerted police to the presence of the puppies trapped inside, after arriving to find the store on fire.
Dramatic footage released by Queensland Police shows officers entering the premises on a mission to locate the helpless animals. Flames can be seen in the rooms of a hallway as officers walk in near darkness towards the cages containing the puppies.
