They cited a number of reasons for the shutdown in a statement, including personal commitments as well as changing buying habits.

They also noted that their lease was coming to an end as the premises had to be sold.

Store owners said, “Since opening we have been honored to serve Castle Cary pet owners.

“This is not a forced closure, it is a closure of choice. These days, it’s a good thing to be able to say.

They added they didn’t want the closure to be “sad”, urging customers to come “with a smile on their face” during their final weeks of trading.

They continued, “Cary has a great local shopping culture and we hope it will stay in place for years to come.

“Thank you to all of our regulars for the support you have given us over the years. In difficult times, you have been there to support local businesses. We will always be grateful. “
